A workshop has only three honest places to put a laser, and the footprint decides which of them you get to choose.
Inside your seated reach, on the bench itself. Behind you, on a side table you have to turn to. Or in an equipment corner you stand up and walk to. Every metre added between your chair and the machine is repeated on every job, in both directions, for as long as you own it.
At roughly 300 × 340 × 320 mm the M3 belongs to the first category. It competes with your tray for room, not with your floor plan — which is a smaller argument to win, and the reason this page exists at all.
Consolidation is usually sold as a shopping-list saving. The change you actually feel is smaller and more constant: how often the piece leaves your fingers.
Seated at a bench, everything you use lives inside one arc: the pin, the tray, the tweezers, the loupe. Anything that lands in that arc pays rent in the only currency a bench has. You are not short of methods for joining metal — you are short of the arc, and of the seconds spent leaving it.
Split the steps of one repair across separate stations and the cost is not the walk. It is what the walk does to the work in your hand.
Welding, cutting and marking share the same open work area and the same binocular view, so the piece is located once and the next operation is selected where your hands already are. The air-cooled architecture removes the external chiller that normally dictates where a laser must live, and the desktop footprint keeps the rest of the bench usable.

The M3 does not replace every specialized machine for every application, and a small footprint cannot argue its way out of physics. Consolidation earns its place in repair and small-batch bench work. These are the cases where it does not:

No arrangement wins every row. If your week looks like the third column and your floor allows it, that column is the honest answer — tell us and we will say so.
